Role Descriptions at LEYLAND EXCEL Netball Club.

‘LEYLAND Excel will take seriously its responsibility to develop netball players of all ability and are proud to do so. We aim for each player to be coached by fair, enthusiastic, able professionals who aim to stretch and develop each player no matter what her levels of ability. As such we will participate in as many Leagues and tournaments as possible of varying difficulty to try to include all players.’

Role descriptions are personalised to meet LEYLAND EXCEL club needs (this excludes the Club Safeguarding Officer who has a specific England Netball role which should not be changed).

Club Chairperson

Key responsibilities:

• Chair the Steering Group Meetings and AGM
• Agree agenda items for Steering Group meetings and the AGM
• Work with Steering Group members to shape a development plan for the club
• Be a supportive leader of all members
• Represent the club at external meetings
• Ensure good communication with membership and other Netball organisations
• Ensure steering group members satisfactorily complete their assigned tasks and abide by the relevant Codes of Conduct
• Liaise with treasurer to ensure funds are spent properly and in the best interest of the members

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per week. Attend club committee meetings and external meetings when appropriate

CLUB TREASURER

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key responsibilities:

• Look after the finances of the club
• Collect subscription fees and all money due to the club
• Pay bills and record information
• Keep up to date records of all financial transactions
• Ensure that funds are spent appropriately
• Issue receipts for monies received
• Report regularly to the committee on the clubs financial situation
• Preparing an end of year statement for auditing
• Present an end of year financial report to the AGM
• Financial planning including an annual budget
• Abide by the Steering Group Codes of Conduct

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per week. Attend club meetings and external meetings when appropriate

What do I need to do in this role?

CLUB SAFEGUARDING OFFICER

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

Policy and Procedures

• To provide information and advice on safeguarding and protecting children within the Club and promote a child focused approach
• To ensure that the Club adopts and follows the England Netball (EN) Safeguarding and Protecting Young People Policy and Procedures
• To ensure that all club members are made aware of and clearly informed about the role of the Safeguarding Officer and know how to contact them for advice, support and resources.
• To promote awareness of the EN Codes of Conduct and to support the implementation of safe recruitment and induction procedures within the club

Referrals

• To receive information from Club staff, volunteers, children or parents and carers who have any concerns relating to the welfare of children and young people and to maintain appropriate records.
• To clarify any information received carefully, ensuring that this is referred on promptly to enable assessment to be undertaken, and support offered, by the EN Lead Child Protection Officer
• To follow the EN Responding and Reporting Concerns flow chart.
• To ensure that the referral is confirmed in writing using the EN Safeguarding and Protecting Children Report Form.
Education and Training
• To advise the club on appropriate training for coaches and volunteers based on the EN-recommended training requirements.
• To signpost those with roles and responsibilities for children and young people to appropriate safeguarding training opportunities.

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per Month. Attend club meetings and external meetings when appropriate.

What do I need to do in this role?

• Be aware of the local statutory child protection network, including the contact details for the local Police and Children’s Social Care Services, the role of the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) and the awareness of local inter-agency child protection procedures.
• Understand the EN Safeguarding and Protecting Young People Policies and Procedures and be committed to promoting the welfare of children and their continued enjoyment and participation within netball.
• Have an awareness of equity issues, safeguarding and child protection.
• Have an understanding of poor practice and abuse – behaviour that is harmful to children or has a potentially negative impact upon their welfare and enjoyment of Netball.
• Be well-known in the club and have a strong child focus. Be accessible to and approachable for children and young people but should ideally not be the coach or volunteer with direct responsibility for coordinating or delivering the junior programmes at the club. They should be a member of the Club.
• Have undertaken the Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop or an equivalent recognised direct delivery training course within the past three years. They must also be committed to receiving further training as necessary and directed by the England Netball Lead Child Protection Officer.

CLUB HEAD COACH

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for overall coaching within the club, ensuring a consistent, coordinated and modern coaching ethos throughout the club
• Implement the coaching element of club development plan
• Guide on tournament entries across all age groups.
• Encourage and support the development of Coaches and Assistant Coaches
• Organise and attend regular, effective Coaches meetings
• Ensure all Coaches follow the Coaches Codes of Conduct and, where appropriate, address concerns.
• Ensure Coaches have well-planned training sessions that
benefit the throughput of players
• Accommodate any gifted & talented players
• Accommodate any equality & diversity issues.

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per week. Attend club committee meetings and external meetings when appropriate

What do I need to do this role?

• Knowledge and understanding of the club constitutions, policies and procedures.
• Confident in own ability to mentor other coaches within the Club
• Netball UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification, Safeguarding certificate, First Aid Certificate and DBS Check.
• Clear communications and the ability to give honest feedback to both parents and coaches as appropriate.
• Commitment to ongoing self-development as a coach
• Ability to drive excellence in coaching throughout the club.

• Take responsibility for supporting the overall coaching within the club, ensuring a consistent, coordinated and modern coaching ethos throughout the club

CLUB VOLUNTEER CO ORDINATOR

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• Be the main point of contact for volunteers and volunteering within the club
• Identify the volunteer needs of your club
• Recruit new volunteers and provide support
• Screen new volunteers
• Ensure that volunteers receive feedback and support
• Ensure that the club has systems to recognise and reward volunteer contribution
• Link to local volunteering schemes/mentoring.

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per month. Attend club committee meetings and external meetings when appropriate

CLUB PUBLICITY & WEBSITE OFFICER

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• Raise the profile of the club in the local community
• Be available to talk to local media
• Coordinate weekly match reports for all teams and forward these on to the local press
• Editor of club newsletter (weekly/monthly/bi-annually)
• Produce general interest stories for the local press and England Netball Magazine
• Promotion of club events

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 8 hours per month. Attend club committee meetings and external meetings when appropriate

What do I need to do this role?

• Need to be well organised with good communication skills
• Able to produce interesting, well-written match reports, social media releases etc.
• Access to a telephone and computer
• Any previous experience of marketing would be useful but not essential

CLUB FUNDRAISING OFFICER

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• Apply for grants/sponsorship or other forms of financial assistance
• Coordinate fundraising events
• Ensure events are properly licensed with local authorities/customs and excise
• Work with the publicity officer to promote fundraising events
• Ensure that funds are properly accounted for and information and funds are passed onto the treasurer
• Sale of lottery-style draws/raffles on a regular basis

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 2 hours per week. Attend club committee meetings and external meetings when appropriate

What do I need to do in this role?

• Need to be well organised and careful when handling money
• Be enthusiastic, creative and innovative
• Prepared to make a regular time commitment
• Any previous experience of grant application or fundraising would be useful but not essential

CLUB TEAM MANAGER

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

The Team Manager shall be expected to encourage high standards in all aspects of club life and contribute to the effective and efficient management of the team they are responsible for, whilst promoting a good club culture which is happy, purposeful and productive.

The Team Manager shall encourage, support and motivate all players and other club members, communicating effectively with club officials, parents and guardians.

The Team Manager is responsible for the general welfare and happiness of players in their allocated team, supporting the work of Club Coaches in making sure all members of their team participate effectively. Furthermore, the Team Manger shall promote a good atmosphere which encourages co-operation and values the contribution which individuals make to the work of the team.

• Manage team data in line with Data Protection Principles.
• Abide by the Team Manager’s Codes of Conduct
• Ensure that all players are aware of the arrangements for matches and tournaments in conjunction with the Steering Group, Coaches, Umpiring Secretary and Treasurer.
• Act as host/hostess whenever their team is representing LEYLAND Excel Netball Club
• Deal with any contingency on the day of the match and advise players accordingly
• Collect and pay match monies for both the local league and tournaments, and liaise with the Team Manager Coordinator and/or the Treasurer about all monies concerning the Squads.
• Be responsible for the Team Managers Kitbag at all matches and tournaments – First aid, bibs/patches, balls and the drinks carrier
• Be responsible for issuing necessary information to players – fixture lists, tournament information, changes to training and match play ……
• Communicate effectively with Officials, Players, Parents and or Guardians.
• Report any matters to the Chairperson before each Committee Meeting so that they can be considered.
• Understand and ensure that they follow England Netball Duty of Care Guidelines.
• Report any concerns relating to child safety immediately and directly to the Club’s Safe Guarding Officer.

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 3 hours per week during the playing season. Attend club meetings and external meetings when appropriate

CLUB COACH

Responsible to: Head Coach, Assistant Head Coach, Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• To hold up-to-date UKCC Coaching, DBS, Safeguarding and First Aid certificates and be affiliated with England Netball to give you and the Club adequate insurance cover.
• To read, understand and abide by all Club Policies, Codes of Conduct and Procedures which can be found on the website.
• Be led by the Club vision from The Steering Group and The Head Coach.
• To take responsibility for planning and delivering coaching sessions appropriately (L2 Coaches only) ensuring there is a consistent, co-ordinated and modern ethos throughout the club. Plans should ensure that they benefit the throughput of players, accommodate talented players and accommodate any equality or diversity issues.
• Report any Safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Officer.
• To accurately complete Club registers at each training session, noting any 2 taster sessions and give out welcome letters and pre-affiliation forms to all New Members, following the Clubs Guide and Procedure to New Players.
• Encourage and support the development of all players.
• Attend regular Coaches meetings
• Attend appropriate League matches with your allocated squad
• Attend required regional games, as appropriate, depending on your squad age, ensuring refreshments are organised as required.
• Attend a minimum of 3 tournaments across the year with your allocated squad – to be decided by you. You will need to ensure that the Club secretary has all the necessary details to enter you in sufficient time, following the Club’s Tournament Procedure.
• Arrange your own cover if you are unable to attend a given training session/match and provide the cover coach with an up-to-date register and plan for the session. You must also inform the Head or Assistant Head Coach.
• Ensure that anyone you are leaving ‘in charge’ of a squad in your absence has the relevant certificates to cover yourself and the Club e.g. DBS, First Aid, Safeguarding and UKCC Level 2/1. If you are unable to find someone that meets the required criteria please seek guidance from the Steering Group.
• To be able to give clear, accurate and honest feedback to players and parents.
• Commitment to ongoing development as a Coach.
• Promote and support fundraising for the Club as a non- profit making Organisation.

What will I get paid?

All coaches are expected to be affiliated to England netball, sign a contract to the Club each September and hold an up-to-date certificate in:

• UKCC Coaching
• DBS
• First Aid
• Safeguarding

If the criteria are met, you will receive the following:

• Lead Coach (level 2 only) £12.50 per hour, plus £5 per match for local league Play.
• Assistant Coach £7.50 per Hour (Level 2 or 1), plus £5 per match for local league match play.
• Lead Coaches (L2 only) attending Regional matches and Greater Manchester County Club League will receive £5 travel expenses (for away matches only)
• Tournaments L2 and L1 £5 travelling expenses
• Friendly Matches L2 and L1 £5 travelling expenses for away fixtures/
• Please note for Local League it is expected the Lead Coach (L2 only) will assist the A Squad with the Assistant Coach (L2 or L1) assisting the B Squad, each coach must have the opportunity to get their £5 for a match.

What if I am a trainee Coach?

If you are a trainee coach, you will be expected to work towards your UKCC Coaching certificate within the year. You will be paid £5 per hour until you are qualified. You are not expected to lead or take charge of any training sessions or matches without a qualified Coach who has all the up to date certificates in place. This excludes those who have signed up to be Young Volunteers who will work on a purely voluntary basis at the club.

How much time will I need to give?

This will depend on how many teams you are coaching within the club. Training sessions last1hr 30 minutes each and then there is the associated match play that will require Coach attendance.

CLUB Junior section Co Ordinator

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate coaching of the junior section
• Develop an action plan for the junior section
• Work with the fixtures secretary to ensure regular and appropriate competitive opportunities
• Work with the Club Volunteer Coordinator to develop young volunteers
• Promote the junior section of the club alongside the Publicity Officer
• Abide by and promote the club’s child protection and fair policy

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 3 hours per week during the playing season. Attend club meetings and external meetings when appropriate

What do I need to do in this role?

• Awareness of issues and good practice surrounding child protection

CLUB NEW MEMBER APPOINTED PERSON

Responsible to: Club Chairperson & Steering Group

Key Responsibilities

• Establish the initial contact with all new members
• Ensure that the Coaches are made aware of details including emergency contact details for 2 free taster sessions
• Ensure new member packs are given out following the 2 week taster sessions to enable full sign-up of the player.
• Work with the Treasurer to update records of payments etc.
• Promote the Club website for all Policies and Procedures

How much time will I need to give?

Approximately 4 hours per month.
